Orca Adoption

I fell in love with orcas after seeing them from a very close distance on a crisp cold sunny winter day in Iceland. They were many, and they were playing.

Did you know that the orcas are the most wide-spread mammals in the world after humans? They live in pods made of small family units, with an experienced and wise female taking care of each pod. Every pod has its own culture, including its own speech and its unique hunting habits. The differences in cultures between orcas from different pods reflect in differences in their genes. Their genetical differences are driven by culture differences!

I got fascinated by their family structures, their playfulness, and their language, which we have absolutely no clue about - a bit like with our own unconscious, and which sounds like a weird, beautiful music. I decided that Behar Center adopts one. To adopt an orca means one is committing to contributing to their conservation, to their protection, and to public education.
